Jim McQuillen (Yurok/Tolowa) is the current Education Department Director at the Yurok Tribe. He is a Yurok Tribal member, a father, grandfather and a dance leader. Jim received a Master’s Degree in Psychology, a PPS credential and he is a licensed Marriage, Family Counselor with the State of California. Jim is passionate about his work with the tribe to educate Yurok people in both traditional and academic learning, addressing the needs of families and children from birth through college. He consistently addresses these needs to the local school districts with the goal of equitable education for native youth. He continues to demand unique needs regarding Yurok language in the schools, trauma informed practices, restorative justice and accurate cultural curriculum in the classroom.
