Chapter 22: “It is our Purpose”

Donald Moore (Yurok/Hupa) At the time of authorship, Donald Moore was 18 years old and entering his first year at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. He comes the villages of Cho-kik, Turip, Morek and Medildin. All throughout his life he has been dedicated to his culture, ceremonies and community. He is actively involved in his ceremonies such as the Jump Dance, Deerskin Dance, Brush Dance and Flower Dance and loves the game of Indian Cards. He holds his family and other youth very close, as he checks in on them often and tries to be a part of their lives as much as he can. Donald also has a lot of knowledge of the Yurok language, as both sides of his family, were taught and speak the language. Donald wants to make a positive impact on his native communities and leave a legacy that people will remember for a long time. Since publication, Donald is in his junior year at Fort Lewis majoring in Biology working toward becoming a high school teacher so he can motivate our youth and encourage more to get an education.
